Mr. Glenn was a symbol of the space age as the first American to orbit Earth, then became a national political figure representing Ohio in the Senate.

Glenn died at age 95 today.

John Glenn became the first American to orbit Earth on February 20, 1962, 60 years ago today. His space capsule was called Friendship 7.

NASA has selected four veteran astronauts to lead the way back into orbit from U.S. soil.

Well before he exited the Earth's atmosphere, John Glenn flew at least 149 combat missions — 59 during World War II and 90 during the Korean War.

This is John Glenn when he appeared on the game show, "Name That Tune." His partner on the show was 10 year old Eddie Hodges (from my hometown Hattiesburg, MS) who went on to star in one of the original "Huckleberry Finn" movies as well as co-starring with Frank Sinatra in the movie "Hole in the Head."
