The Celtic languages are a group of related languages which form a branch of the Indo-European language family. They were once the dominant language grouping in Britain and Ireland and all descend from a common ancestor called Proto-Celtic. Irish , Manx and Scottish Gaelic are Goidelic languages and Welsh, Breton and Cornish are Brythonic languages. Manx and Cornish were once extinct but now revived due to local efforts, although the number of speakers of each number in the low hundreds.
