This beaver was sunning herself on a rock out in the Yukon River the other day following a spring snowstorm. They use their large flat tails to maneuver when swimming, to prop themselves up when felling trees with their teeth, to store fat reserves, to lever fallen logs back to their ponds, and to slap the water and warn of danger. The North American beavers are nature’s hard-working architects. They have an innate ability to build structures that can rival even some ambitious human projects. These impressive skilled creatures also ended up becoming the main characters of a video game (it’s called Timberborn, if you want to look for it).

The group, England's only wild beavers, haven't been spotted at their home on Devon's river Otter since September. Experts think human visitors may have scared the animals away from the burrow.
