The Ōtsuzumi (大鼓), or large drum, leads the Noh ensembles with its hard, piercing sound. In contrast to the Kotsuzumi, its leather drum heads must be kept dry to maintain the characteristic strong and high pitch. The distinct sounds of the Ōtsuzumi harmonize with the Kotsuzumi to create a more complete rhythm on the Noh stage.- Huan Le
