Jaguar's XJ13 was designed initially for Le Mans. It took quite a long time to get the program underway, and construction didn't begin until 1965. The first example was running in early 1966. However, by that time it was considered inferior to the Ford GT-40. Developing the car further was deemed to expensive as it had a long way to go to catch up the latest Ford, Ferrari and Porsche racers. There were plans to race the car in America, but technology had already passed it by.
