Vintage German Op Art Vase - KPM A tradition that was popular among the pre-columbians was to carve one half of an image (usually in a small piece of Jade, etc.), leaving the rest of the piece blank. The idea being that when the blank portion was submerged the image was completed in the reflection. I see strong parallels here.
