"This painting is about watching a red fox mother hunting for Pipit eggs at dusk as her cubs played nearby. I fell in love with the Meadow Pipit but I also fell in love with a red fox and magical moths".

jump for joy2010 posted a photo: The Meadow Pipit is a familiar and often abundant bird throughout the year, although most of our breeding birds head south to winter in France and Iberia, with some reaching North Africa. The first returning migrants appear in February and peak passage is from mid-March to mid-April.

jump for joy2010 posted a photo: Meadow pipit numbers in the UK have been declining since the mid-1970s, resulting in this species being included on the amber list of conservation concern. In winter they are quite gregarious and gather in small flocks. There was a small group of six flitting between the posts and tops of the hedges today and it was lovely to watch them having a preen and chat.

Another Bird Blog: Merlin And Mipits The slightly murky start to the morning produced some obvious autumn migration by way of an influx of Swallows, some visibly heading south, a number of landfall Meadow Pipits, and my first Merlin of the autumn.
