Esperanza Spalding, jazz bassist and singer. She draws upon many genres in her own compositions. She won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist, making her the 1st - and only - jazz artist to win the award. In addition to uptight bass, she can play bass guitar, oboe & clarinet, and sing in English, Spanish & Portuguese. After her graduation from Berklee College of Music, she was hired by the college, becoming one of the youngest instructors in the institution's history, at age 20.
