Dave McKean has been one of my favorite contemporary artists since he collaborated with Neil Gaiman on Black Orchid in 1987. Their subsequent collaborations Violent Cases and Mr. Punch blew me away as have his children book collaborations (also with Neil) The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish, Wolves in the Wall, etc. I also love McKean's work on the graphic novel series Cages, Arkham Asylum, his Jonathan Carroll book covers, and his photography books.

Ramon Llull (c. 1232 – c. 1315) was a philosopher, logician, Franciscan tertiary credited with writing the first major work of Catalan literature. Recently surfaced manuscripts show him to have anticipated by several centuries prominent work on elections theory. He is also considered a pioneer of computation theory, especially given his influence on Gottfried Leibniz. He was missionary in Africa. // Portrait by Ricard Anckermann, c. 1870
