Girasol Quartz (also called girasol opal and milky quartz) is an ancient mineral found in Northern Africa and has powerful energies. Girasol quartz, in ancient Egyptian times, was frequently carved into pendants and funerary vessels. Girasol literally means ‘turn to sun’ because although translucent, when turned in the sun’s rays it exhibits rays of blue, green yellow and red. The color changes as the angle and intensity of the sun’s rays coming through it changes.
Pectoral of Princess Sit-Hathor-yunet (detail), Middle Kingdom, Dynasty 12, ca. 1887–1813 B.C. Egyptian. This pectoral is a superb example of the technical skill and artistry of Middle Kingdom jewelers. It was made using the cloisonné technique in which 372 carefully cut pieces of semiprecious stone were set into metal cells. The pectoral’s owner was Princess Sit- Hathor- yunet, who seems to have lived from the reign of Senwosret II into that of Amenemhat III of Dynasty 12.
