Geisha wearing a Juban 1905. A Geisha partially dressed, wearing only her Juban (inner kimono). Her hairstyle and the kimono hanging behind her are both in the Genroku style in imitation of the dress of the Genroku period (1688 -1703), a fashion that became popular amongst Tokyo Geisha around 1905. This postcard is captioned “A Japanese Singer in the Dress of Olden Times”, Geisha were often referred to as “Singing Girls” by Western commentators during this period
