From Kamikurokoma, Misaka-cho, Yamanashi. Jomon Period. 3000-2000 B.C.E. - A dogu, prehistoric Japanese clay figurines representing humans and animals that are felt to have been used in sympathetic magic - shamanic healing, fertility and funerary rites. It is also suggested that some of the dogu represent mother goddesses.
